Production
I have been providing production processes for all my designs and agency work for 20+ years and loving it. I also taught it regularly as a Professor of Graphic Design at The College of New Jersey. It's an exacting science. Adjusting RGB or CMYK as needed for accurate prep. Getting effective resolution correct for images and a vast assortment of other mandatory and critical processes that have to be correct.
To be a successful production artist, you’ll need three things: a deep foundational understanding of graphic design, exceptional technical skills in industry-standard software, and a thorough grasp of both digital and print publication processes.
Of the above list, it’s the third aspect that really distinguishes production artists from graphic designers.
I have an expert understanding of file formats, color management, image sizing, and other prepress requirements and I have an expert an knowledgeable in how each differs from medium to medium.
